No matter how much we try and prevent it, sometimes accidents happen. However, most people get an acute or recurrent episode of an old injury doing a trivial or ever y day movement such as bending over to
pick up something from the floor or even doing the vacuuming.
So how does this happen?
Your bodies basic biomechanics allows you to move around in a normal and pain-free fashion. When this biomechanics is disrupted then there is a build up of tension and stress on one
particular area of your body. The cause of the biomechanical misalignment is often far removed from the area of pain.
A Case Study Example:
Recently, a 52 year old male came to the centre complaining of right knee pain below the knee cap for the past 2 years made worse by running, gym work and snowboarding. Orthopaedic
testing of the right knee was negative however further orthopaedic tests showed a weak right hamstring and rotated pelvis. Neurological and chiropractic evaluation showed a
problem at the 5th Lumbar vertebrae (L5) which was directly inhibiting his right hamstring. This in-turn caused incorrect biomechanics of the right knee which led to the patients symptoms.
After only four (4) adjustments, the patient left for an overseas holiday where he would be snowboarding
almost everyday for a little over one month in Canada. Upon his return, he reported that he was able to snowboard and run for the entire time without any of the pain that had plagued his right knee for over 2 years.
So How Does Chiropractic Help Injuries:
Chiropractic deals with the underlying cause of the problem, not just the area of pain. We look at the biomechanical and neurological factors that may have predisposed you to your injury
and our treatment is aimed at removing this cause to help ensure that recurrent episodes of the injury do no occur.
